Juvenile Justice

On Thursday guests from Chicago's WBEZ radio came to interview our B period Urban Studies class about a series they were running on juvenile justice.

Each of our classes will be checking out the stories and then replying to one of the "Share Your Thoughts" links on the WBEZ website. The link is HERE.

"The alderman makes sure the cops dot come. And the only thing they want from us is a donation- ten thousand dollars gets you an alderman for a year"..pg.74

I believe that aldermans or other city officials, who are in eith the gangs do it for their own personal gains. They benefit from things that may seem well on the surface, but when everything is visible turns out to be very, very different.
Many corrupt politicians do in part do intend to get caught, so thats another reason for being affliated with gangs.

After reading the article "Marcus On the Run", my opinion on Marcus is he's headed down the same path as Angelica. I say this because he started following the wrong crowd at a young age, just as Angelica did. And if he continue's he will end up just as she has. I also think that he still has a chance to redeem himself. He's only 14, therefore he still can change and get the help he needs. But at the same time, with him being so young he will not be able to do it by himself. He wil need the support of his family in the end, and most importantly, he will need to feel accepted by his peers and the school's falcuty!

After listening to "mind of Mario" I think that Marion had a rough beginning which caused him to go down the wrong road. With two male role models that showed him the wrong way, he was set up for failure. Although he has choosen to be the opposite of them, he could have been the typical person and fell into those habits. I'm glad his grandmother showed him the love he needed to get past that tramuatizing event.
